Former UPIKE Guard Jackson Hussey Begins Pro Career in Australia

Former University of Pikeville guard Jackson Hussey has signed with the Geraldton Buccaneers in Australia's SBL league.

Hussey averaged 8.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game for the Bears last season.

Geraldton Buccaneers (SBL) landed 24-year old Australian guard Jackson Hussey (190-84kg-92). He just graduated from Pikeville (NAIA). In 31 games he averaged 8.6ppg, 3.4rpg, 2.2apg and 1.1spg last season. He helped them to end the regular season as a second best team in Mid-South Conference.

The previous (14-15) season Hussey played at Pikeville College in Mid-South Conference in the NAIA. In 24 games he had 9.0ppg, 4.3rpg, 2.6apg and 1.2spg in 2014-15 season. He contributed to his team making it to the semifinals. and they also made it to the NAIA D1 Elite Eight.

Peyton Siva is Headed to Germany

Former Louisville point guard Peyton Siva will be playing in Germany next season.

Siva has signed with ALBA Berlin in Germany's top-level BBL league.

Last season, Siva averaged 13.3 points and 6.5 assists per game for JuveCaserta in Italy's Serie A league.

ALBA Berlin (BBL) inked 26-year old American point guard Peyton Siva (185-84kg-90, college: Louisville). He played most recently at JuveCaserta in Italian Serie A. In 21 games he averaged 13.3ppg, 2.7rpg, 6.5apg and 2.0spg last season. It was a very successful year in his career as he was selected to Italian SerieA All-Star Game.

The previous (14-15) season Siva played at Erie Bay Hawks in D-League. In 37 games he had 13.9ppg, 3.4rpg, 6.8apg and 1.6spg in 2014-15 season. He also spent pre-season at the Magic in NBA that year. Siva was also tried-out by the Pistons in NBA.

In 13-14 season he played at Fort Wayne Mad Ants in D-League. In 9 games he had 14.3ppg, 2.6rpg, 5.0apg and 2.2spg in 2013-14 season.

Marcus Lee Officially Introduced by California

California and head coach Cuonzo Martin have officially introduced Kentucky transfer Marcus Lee.

Lee will sit out one season and have year of eligibility left for the Golden Bears.

BERKELEY – Marcus Lee, a 6-9, 224-pound forward from nearby Antioch, has signed a financial aid agreement to join the Golden Bear men’s basketball team, Cal head coach Cuonzo Martin announced Monday. Lee, who spent his first three seasons at Kentucky, will sit out the 2016-17 season under NCAA transfer guidelines and will have one season of eligibility for the Bears in 2017-18.

“We're very excited to have Marcus Lee be a part of our basketball family,” Martin said. “Marcus brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our program. He's contributed and won at a high level in high school as well as in college.”

Lee started 20 of 36 games for the Wildcats last season, averaging 6.4 points per game and tying for the team lead with 6.0 rebounds per game and 59 blocked shots. He helped Kentucky finish 27-9 overall and 13-5 in the SEC. The Wildcats won the SEC Tournament title and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Lee earned a place on the SEC Community Service team for the second straight year in 2015-16 and was the SEC’s male representative at the 2016 NCAA Leadership Forum. He shot a school-record 68.0 percent from the floor (minimum 150 shot attempts, 102-of-150) and paced Kentucky in rebounding a team-high 13 times. In addition, he collected a team-best 87 offensive rebounds and led the squad with 51 dunks.

“He's a high-motor guy with tremendous attributes on both ends of the floor,” Martin added. “He's one of the best athletes in all of college basketball and he's committed to being successful on and off the court.”

Lee recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in a victory over No. 5 Duke and went on to add double-doubles vs. Illinois State (13-12), at South Carolina (11-13) and vs. LSU (12-10). He scored a season-high 14 points vs. Arizona State.

During his sophomore season, Lee was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll for the second time in his career. He saw action in all 39 games and contributed 2.6 ppg and 2.7 rpg along with 27 blocks while shooting 64.4 percent from the field. Kentucky finished 38-1 and reached the NCAA Final Four.

Lee earned a spot on the Midwest Region NCAA All-Tournament team his freshman year after scoring 10 points and grabbing eight rebounds in a Sweet 16 victory over Michigan. He played in 25 games with four starts and averaged 2.4 ppg and 1.4 rpg with Kentucky going 27-11 and advancing to the NCAA championship game before falling to Connecticut.

Lee averaged 17.7 ppg, 19.5 rpg and 6.7 bpg as a senior at Deer Valley High School in Antioch. He was ranked as the No. 17 recruit in the country by, while ESPU rated him the No. 30 high school prospect and put him at No. 40. Lee played in both the Jordan Brand and McDonald’s High School All-America games. In addition to basketball, Lee was an exceptional volleyball player and helped his team to the sectional title as a senior.

Lee becomes the fourth addition to Cal’s roster for the 2016-17 season, joining guards Charlie Moore, Don Coleman and Grant Mullins. Moore is a 5-11 guard out of Chicago who is rated as high as No. 55 in the country by The Chicago Sun-Times Player of the Year as a senior, he averaged 28 points, 7 assists and 5 steals per game this past season for Morgan Park High School. Coleman, a 6-4 guard, will be a sophomore for the Bears for the upcoming campaign after averaging 19.9 ppg this past year at Lawson State Community College in Birmingham, Alabama, while Mullins, a 6-3 guard, comes to the Bears as a graduate transfer from Columbia after contributing 13.3 ppg and earning second-team All-Ivy League honors for the Lions in 2015-16.

Brescia University Signs Blake Donavan, Zach McDaniel for 2016-17

Brescia University has signed two more players for 2016-17.

New head coach Brian Skortz has added Lloyd Memorial High School point guard Black Donavan and Virginia-Wise transfer Zach McDaniel.

Head Coach Brian Skortz announces the signing of Blake Donavan, a point guard from Lloyd Memorial HS. Donavon averaged 8.5ppg and 8.3apg at Lloyd Memorial. He was also selected to the NCKC All Conference 1st Team and was named to the 34th District All Tournament Team. "We are excited to have Blake a part of the Bearcat family. He is a true point guard and will bring added depth to the program. He has a knack of finding the open guy and is quick to the basket in penetration. He has a great work ethic and we are excited he is coming to Brescia." commented Coach Skortz

Zach McDaniel, University of Virginia Wise (South Warren High School)

Brescia University Men's Basketball Coach Brian Skortz announces the addition of Zach McDaniel, a 6-foot-7 forward from the University of Virginia Wise,. A native of Bowling Green, KY., McDaniel recently signed a letter of intent to continue his education and basketball career at Brescia University. "We are excited to have Zach join our program," said Coach Skortz. "With his skill, versatility, and leadership, I believe he has an opportunity to make an immediate impact in our program." "Zach's style of play fits into our philosophies here. Zach has played with some of our current players through AAU and at his time at South Warren H.S. he has some chemistry already with some of the guys and will fit right in from day one with the team." Skortz also states. During McDaniel's playing career at South Warren, Zach avgeraged 16.1 ppg 7.8 reb. McDaniel then went to a Prep School at Hargrave Military Academy where he averaged 14.2 ppg 7.1 reb before signing at NCAA Div II School Virginia Wise. At UV-Wise McDaniel averaged 2ppg and 2rpg during his freshman year.

Citation Says Kentucky's Derek Willis Was Found Passed Out in the Street Prior to Arrest

An arrest citation obtained by the Courier-Journal has revealed more information on the weekend arrest of Kentucky's Derek Willis.

According to the citation, Willis was found passed out in the street.

Here is an excerpt:

According to the arrest citation provided by the Boone County Sheriff’s Department, a deputy was dispatched to Mountain Laurel Way in Union, Ky., because of a possible drunk subject “laying in the middle of the street.” The deputy arrived to find Willis on the ground outside the open driver’s side door of a vehicle and reported a “strong odor of associated with alcohol” coming from the inside of the vehicle and Willis.

The deputy reported Willis said he had “a lot“ to drink and could not advise where he was other to say in “northern Kentucky” after being woken up. The citation reports Willis had extremely slurred speech, was unsteady on his feet and “was a danger to himself and others.”

Kentucky's Derek Willis Arrested in Northern Kentucky

University of Kentucky forward Derek Willis was reportedly arrested in Northern Kentucky last night.

Here are details from Cats Illustrated:

Records, available to the public, list the offense as ‘alcohol intoxication in a public place.’

A source first tipped Cats Illustrated off to the news on Sunday afternoon. That source said Willis was with a female, believed to be his girlfriend, at the time of his arrest. Willis’ mother provided the bail required for Willis’ release.
