Magoffin County Knocks Off Johnson Central, Russell Honored for 2,000th Point

The Magoffin County Hornets staked a claim as one of the top teams in the 15th Region with a 56-54 win over Johnson Central last night.

The Hornets were led by 24 points from super senior Trenton Russell. Jaren Lovely added 14 points and 4 assists.

Russell was honored before the game with a basketball commemorating his 2,000th point, which was scored late last season. He now stands at just over 2,400 points and is Magoffin County's all-time leading scorer.

Mason Blair led Central with 22 points on 9-for-28 field goal shooting.

Johnson Central, Magoffin County, Sheldon Clark and Paintsville are all in the same district. Only two can make it to the region tournament.
