Here are details from UC:

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – Union College head men's basketball coach Kevin Burton was named the 2016-17 HoopDirt.com NAIA Coach of the Year presented by Hoop Group, the organization announced Saturday.

Burton qualified for the award by being named as the HoopDirt.com/Hoop Group Coach of the Week for Week 2 of the season.

"I am very honored and humbled to be named the National Coach of the Year by HoopDirt.com," Burton said. "They have been the main source for basketball information in our industry for several years now. This award is a direct result of having high level players with great ambition and character."

Burton led Union to a school record 35-3 overall mark en route to the 2017 NAIA Division II National Championship. After beginning the season 2-3, the Bulldogs reeled off 33 wins in a row, capping the year off with a 72-69 victory over Cornerstone (Mich.) in the national championship game.

During the 33-win streak, Union won by double digits in 26 games, winning 18 of those contests by 20 or more points. The Bulldogs went 20-0 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play to win the regular-season championship before collecting the tournament crown by winning their three games by an average margin of 21 points.

Burton took over the reins of the Union program in 2012, and in five seasons, he has amassed a record of 136-34 with the Bulldogs. Union has won four-straight AAC regular-season and tournament championships under his tutelage as well as the school's first-ever NAIA national championship in any sport. Under Burton, the Bulldogs have not lost a conference road game in three years, winning 29 in a row. The last road defeat came on Feb. 14, 2014.

The NAIA award is for Division I and Division II.
