Elliott County Lions Article in USA Today

The Elliott County Lions have earned more national coverage with a nice article appearing in USA Today. Check out the article here:

A 'Hoosiers II' in Kentucky keeps county captivated

Some quotes I pulled from the article:

"We've said all year that we won't be satisfied if we're not playing Saturday night at Rupp Arena, and we're not going to back down from that now," Evan (Faulkner) says.

"We don't have a lot of students but that doesn't mean we don't have players," says Elliott County coach Rick Mays who played at the school when it was called Sandy Hook High.

"We try to put a lot of mental and physical stress (on opponents), and create situations we want," Mays said.

"We have kids with high basketball IQs," Evan says

Elliott County has a devoted following. Superintendent John C. Williams says one fan drives nearly two hours to watch the Lions play, and the school sold all of its tickets for the Sweet 16 in 90 minutes.
