Handicapper on Kentucky Basketball: "The Wildcats Suck"

A "self-proclaimed" professional handicapper lists his nine most overrated teams in college basketball. He names Kentucky the most overrated team of all and basically unloads on the Wildcats. He also ranks the Louisville Cardinals at #7 on his list and takes a few cheapshots at Louisville and head coach Rick Pitino. He even manages to get an indirect blow in on the Morehead State Eagles.

Here is an excerpt of the article about the Kentucky Wildcats:

Well, I'm going to go out on what I feel is a very sturdy limb and say that Kentucky is by far the most overrated college basketball team in the nation.

The Wildcats suck. And I'm not kidding. They are completely and totally overrated as a Top 5 team and I, personally, think that if you stripped the name off the jersey this would be an NIT team. They don't suck like a Big West bottom feeder, but if we're grading them based on how they relate to the other BCS conference teams I can unequivocally say that this is not a really good basketball team.

Kentucky has bumbled its way to 7-0 while facing the No. 329-rated schedule in the country. They have played zero teams that I predict will play in a postseason tournament and I don't see what they have accomplished that would convince anyone that they are anything but a fringe Top 25 team. They won by just two points against a Miami, OH team that is probably the fifth-best team in the MAC East. They managed a 10-point win over Sam Houston State in a game in which they allowed 92 points. And they needed overtime to beat a weak Stanford team that is one of the two or three worst in the god-awful Pac-10.

Statements about John Wall:

John Wall leads the team with 19 points per game, but I've yet to watch the game in which I found myself saying, "Wow, that guy is just dominating and is clearly the best player on the floor."

Some thoughts on Patrick Patterson:

Then there is Patrick Patterson. For some reason people think that this guy is an All-American talent. I don't see it. He has no face up game, he doesn't pass or handle the ball, and he basically is just one of those guys that's just freakishly more athletic than his opponents. He couldn't take this team to the NCAA Tournament last year so now I'm supposed to believe that he's going to get them to Indianapolis? Child, please.

And just for fun, some comments about Louisville:

7. Louisville (No. 18, No. 20) I can't say enough bad things about this team. Let's just take all of the negative karma surrounding Dick Pitino and bend it over a table. (I'm sorry, did I say, "bend it over" I meant to say "put it on" the table. My bad, Dick.) Just focusing on what's on the court I can say that I don't really like much about this squad. Samardo Samuels is backing up the fact that he was one of the most overrated players out of high school last year. If anyone thinks the light is going to turn on for Edgar Sosa, they don't know anything about basketball. And if Jerry Smith keeps shooting like he has been (19.2 percent from three-point range) then these guys are in big trouble. They are deep, if you like mediocre, out-of-control perimeter players. And the guy that I like the best, Reginald Delk, is getting really inconsistent minutes. Don't be fooled by their blowouts over Arkansas (who was, quite literally, relying on a dude off the tennis team on the inside) and Appalachian State. Both of those games were tight early in the second half, and those are teams that Louisville should handle from start to finish. That loss at UNLV was not an aberration; Louisville is probably the seventh or eighth best team in the Big East, not a Top 20 team in the country.

Honestly, he's right. There is so much hype about uk because of Calipari and this freshmen class. To tell the truth if UK had a real coach maybe they would be good or a top 10 team, but Calipari ain't the coach and this season will prove that. Calipari depends on talented players alone and that's why it took him so long to start winning in Memphis. And if you need proof look at Memphis this year, not the same amount of talent as past memphis teams and they have a real depth issuse yet in the hands of a halfway good coach they can play with the best team in the nation within 2 point's and still blow teams out by 20 + point's(something that most didn't expect). My point is Memphis underachived with Calipari at the helm D rose and CDR are future all stars and both with only 2 year in the NBA what do you think coach K or Roy Williams would have done with that team? Even last year they should have made the final 4 or at least elite 8 CAL CAN'T COACH HE DEPENDS ON TALENTED PLAYER TO MAKE HIM. If and when Kentucky get's a good coach they will be ok but until then........well.....good luck
P.s. please please don't end up like memphis and umass

Robert Ferringo (the 'expert' handicapper who wrote this article) is nothing but a professional scam artist. I am familiar with his company and his 'work' and have found it nothing more than WEAK. The following is a review written about him and his company:

'Now Doc's sports Service touts that they have been in business for over 35 years and they provide winning sports picks consistently and claim that you will be up many, many, many units if you just follow their system. I found this not to be the case.

I chose one of his handicappers named Robert Ferringo. I checked them out on the web and all searches led right back to their site. How great this guy is, how he just knocks them out, all these supposed winning streaks, written articles on other websites, etc, etc, etc Ad Nauseum. Needless to say, it was not enough home work.

I jumped in and paid for a subscription to the second half of the MLB season $420. I bet the man's selections religously through the end of the season. I lost $40 (round numbers here) in August, I lost $225 in September, and I won $192 in October. A total loss with the price of the subscription of $493.00. Oh, well, just like the stock market right? That's why they call it gambling right? Well, since I hadn't lost too much betting his baseball picks, I figured I'd sign up for the football package, I mean the guy should know what he's doing in football right? I mean there are less games and he's got more time to do his homework right? Wrong.

So I pay $695 for all college and pro football picks through the Super Bowl. I win $44 in August on the exhibition season, Lose $90 in September, Lose $427 in October, Lose $492 in November (I stopped playing the picks in November out of disgust, but kept tracking them since I had paid for the subscription), Won $183 in December, and won $100 on the playoffs and the Super Bowl. Loss of almost $1300.

That's almost $1800 lost on the services of a professional. Sour grapes right?

No, I knew what I was getting into and that is why I am writing this now. Beware of anyone touting themselves as experts or winners. Anyone that says they win more than 58-59% of the time is trying to rip you off.

I believed these people knew what they were doing. But... I ignored the red flags.

Robert Ferringo did not "flat bet" his selections, He would tell you to bet $10 on one game and $40 on another. The $40 bet would more often than not lose. Many $50,$60,$70 losers also.

Ferringo distorts his numbers. He posts what he thinks he won and skews the math with statements like "3 out of 4 winning days" when what really happened is he won $10 3 days and lost $50 on the 4th.

Anyway, the thing that really made me write this, is that Ferringo released this Blog on his webpage to discuss any supposed issue a client may have. I posted twice to it and created so much havoc that he deleted my comments and called me everything but a liar. The people that did catch my comments also were posting that they were expressing the same level of dissatisfaction because he was losing with College Basketball. As of this writing, I saw a post from him that he was filtering all posts to his blog, before they were published. When I tried to post, I found that he has blocked my IP address as well as many others. As a result, there have been no comments posted on his blog in 2 days, because presumably he is trying to block all the negative coming his way.'

And if this weren't enough...

'I have lost for 3 months straight. Robert Ferringo is past his prime. He's not worth it. Do not spend your money on his picks! absolutely worthless. You should have an extra 15,000 laying around and you might bank 1k at the end of the season. It's not worth it. He is really bad.'

So I guess if he's picking us to not do well I should be happy. What a tool.

The first commenter is so smart, he puts apostrophes where they don't belong. I didn't know you can do that and still get your high school diploma, or even a GED. As for Ferringo, he's a moron. Both of these toolboxes must be bitter Memphis fans.

yeah this guys nothing but a loser. 1) This is pretty much Gillespies schedule that Cal did not have enough time to change and 2) Every team, every year plays easy opponents to start out with. This guy thinks every team should start out playing the #1, #2, #3, etc. randked teams in a row so they can "prove" their worthy. What a tool LOSER!

(@3rd poster)Why would Memphis fans be bitter? We have a up and coming coach, number 1 recruiting class, and we dont have to defend Calipari at every turn. Kentucky fans need to come off there high horses and leave Memphis out of there mouths. I personally dont give a DAMN what you do in lexington but i would like for you to stop taking cheap shots at Memphis.

And I thought losing $2000 fake dollars playing Texas Hold 'Em on my XBox360 was a bad day. Never been one to bet on sports games, and never one to trust handicappers. Case. In. Point.

Pretty crappy article. I just love how the internet gives any nutjob the access to thousands of readers and therefore makes them feel "official."

Let's just let the proof come out in the pudding. We've got a lot to digest coming up in the next week. After that, we can see who "sucks" and who needs to be taken down a few rankings. (or shoot up a few).

UK fan here..Memphis is good, and will continue to be good...so that takes care of the Memphis contingent...would rather root for your team than that Orange travesty in the same state anyway...as for this guy saying UK is overrated, well it's simply too early to tell... by his logic UNC losing to (at the time) an unranked Syracuse team and #2 Michigan St. losing to (at the time) an unranked Florida team would have sent up red-flags...the point being that they both lost to schools that were supposed to be weaker opponents...while UK has beaten all-comers...not by overwhelming scores in each game, but I would have preferred the close games vs Miami (OH) and Stanford to better prep them mentally for the close games to follow vs the more elite teams on their schedule...will UK lose this season, more than likely...will it be because they are overrated...no...they are young...the most foolish comment though was stating that Patterson is overrated...simply a stupid comment that would be bashed by those in the know (NBA GM's, opposing coaches who have to play him etc) Patterson is an old-school, bring your lunch pail to work kind of guy who will outwork his peers to better himself, who will defer at times to others to help them acquire confidence in their games and can dominate any one at any time (the author of this article must have not known or just forgotten that Pat was an All-American last year, even though he was being constantly doubled and tripled in the blocks)...the beauty of a true idiot is when they actually put their stupidity to the written form as a time-tested tribute to their vapid and biased opinions...it certainly will be nice when this UK team reaches their goals and has success (even at a young age) so that this "writer" can be exposed for what he is... the poster boy for the Moronic...oh, and congrats to Josh Pastner for his recruiting class...still some guys out there for Cal, so don't get too comfy with the #1 spot just yet...

Kentucky fans are the one's acting bitter. I bet every UK board but this one you can find UK fans ranting about how there next coach after Calipari will be Josh Pastner and much the wish he would have came to UK with Cal. Please...Memphis fans are not bitter.

UK fans are passionate. Bat-shit crazy, but passionate. Some make me roll my eyes, some make me chuckle, some make me embarassed, and some make me mad as all get out.

I love the game. I love good players. I love good rivalries. I love good sportsmanship. Sometimes those things go together. Sometimes they do not and our attitudes adjust accordingly. Personally, I'm not bitter, just anxious.

To all UK haters.... Your hate comes from FEAR. Just can't stand it that UK is back and your all going to get your tails beat.

I have to say, when I read how stupid this "proclaimed-handicapper was, I just had to comment. I usually think these things are a waste of time, but so far UK has proved they can win. Close games or not, a win is a win. Oh, and may i mention that we did just beat the all mighty Tarheels? On top of that, we were up by 19 points and then slowed down a bit when Wall got cramped up. They are still a young team, and like the person above, the people bad mouthing Kentucky are scared, or if they really believe UK sucks we will have the opportunity to see them eat their words come March when we cut cut down the nets! Go Cats!

Who has UK played? No one, the SEC is a horrible conference which UK has two losses in. Their out of conference schedule was weak as well. The only half way decent teams they played were at home anyway? They have a schedule strength some where around 60-70? The only other teams in the top 25 that come close to this easy of a schedule is BYU and New Mexico? There hardest games on their entire schedule was Vandi and Tenn. on the road? They barely squeaked through one and straight got beat in the second? These games should be an easy win for a 1-5 team playing a 15-20 team on the road. Overrated? Does dropping a ton of money on a college team automatically guarantee a good ranking? Is UK the USC of basketball now? If UK really believe they are that good maybe they should switch conferences and move to the big east. Prove it.
