Ole Miss Team Bus Parks on Live Landmine in Nashville?

Ole Miss assistant basketball coach Torrey Ward broke the news on Twitter tonight that the Ole Miss team bus parked over a "live landmine" outside of Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

The Rebels had a late practice for tomorrow's SEC Tournament and were not allowed on the bus for some time following the practice.

No more details have been reported, but I have to assume that the bus inadvertently parked in a construction zone

Here is Ward's message on Twitter:

CoachTWard So we just got done with practice @ the Bridgestone Arena & we can't get on the bus because it's parked over a live landmine. Scary.

UPDATE: Coach Ward's post on Twitter has since been deleted.

At this point, I am not sure what to make of this story and will be keeping an eye open for more details. First and foremost, I am ecstatic that no one was injured in what could have been a serious situation. Beyond that, I have to wonder why there was a live landmine lying around the streets of Nashville.

UPDATE: The explanation we have all been waiting for is out. Here is an excerpt of an article from ClarionLedger.com that explains what happened:

Well, the good news is I called UM basketball sports information director Joey Jones and he gave me a little longer version of what happened. Apparently, the route the team had taken to get to Bridgestone Arena went right next to some explosives that had been set up to demolish a building, but nobody had warned them (Kentucky took the same route).

Once the teams arrived at the arena, someone alerted the bus drivers that they should probably take another route when leaving Bridgestone Arena, so the UM players and coaches had to wait a little while as everyone figured out another way out of there.

So basically, it sounds like a bit of an overzealous Tweet gone wild. There were explosives involved, but the danger was minimal and there is absolutely nothing for fans to worry about as they head to Bridgestone Arena today.

Now, it's time to focus on Southeastern Conference basketball.

They were blasting in downtown Nashville on Tuesday and Wednesday this week for the new convention center in Nashville. However, all construction-related work was postponed beginning Thursday through the weekend due to the SEC tournament. The reason the bus drivers/teams were not notified is because the construction had ceased at that point and will not resume until next week.
