COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Campbellsville (Ky.) senior Eric Gaines is the Mid-South Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.

The weekly award is the first of the season for Gaines

Gaines averaged 18.5 points and nine rebounds per game while guiding the No. 19-ranked Tigers to a pair of top-25 wins during the week.

The Chicago forward recorded his first double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds in Campbellsville's 55-54 win over No. 25-ranked Cumberlands (Ky.) on Thursday. Gaines provided the highlight-reel moment in the game as he intercepted a pass at the top of the Cumberlands' key and drove to the basket for the game-winning dunk with 25 seconds left.

On Saturday, Gaines scored a season-high 22 points on 11-of-14 shooting and pulled down six rebounds in the Tigers' 99-78 win over No. 2-ranked Pikeville (Ky.). The win is Campbellsville's fifth in six tries over a ranked foe this season.

Gaines ended the week shooting an incredible 72 percent (18-of-25) from the field. He added 1.5 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per outing during the week.

Gaines is averaging 10 points per game this season. He ranks fourth in the Mid-South averaging 7.9 rebounds per outing.

Campbellsville improves to 8-1 overall and sits atop the Mid-South standings at 3-0 following last week's wins.

The next MSC Men's Basketball Player of the Week will be announced on Monday, Dec. 1.
