Murray State Cruises Past Tennessee Tech for 10th Consecutive Win

The Murray State Racers recorded their 10th straight win Thursday with an 83-67 win against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles at the Eblen Center in Cookeville, Tenn.

Cameron Payne scored 24 points to lead the Racer attack, while Jarvis Williams added 16. Justin Seymour scored 13 off the bench and Jeffery Moss added 10 points.

The Racers moved to 2-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference and 12-4 as they head for Jacksonville State and a Sunday 5 p.m. game on the CBS Sports Network.

Using an efficient first half in which they only committed one turnover, the Racers took a 45-32 half lead and pushed it to 51-32 in the opening minutes of the second half on a pair of threes from Moss and Payne. The MSU lead expanded to 21 points when Jonathan Fairell hit a pair of free throws with 16:37 left to make it 53-32.The Golden eagles never got closer than 13 the rest of the way.

The Racers shot 49 percent from the field on 30-of-67 shots, while holding Tech to 37 percent on 22-of-59. The Racers held all five Tech starters under 10 points.

MSU's 10-game win streak is the 19th such all-time in MSU history. It's the best streak since MSU started 23-0 in Coach Steve Prohm's rookie season in 2011. The last five MSU coaches have all had at least two 10-game win streaks including: Mark Gottfried, Tevester Anderson, Mick Cronin, Billy Kennedy and now Steve Prohm.
