RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men's basketball White Team fought back from a 30-point deficit to defeat the Maroon Team, 91-90, in a thrilling, double-overtime Maroon-White Scrimmage on Saturday at McBrayer Arena.

Both teams shot above 50 percent from the field and combined to knock down 22 three-pointers in an up-and-down affair that ended when redshirt junior JaVontae Hawkins knocked down a single free throw in double-overtime to lift the White Team to victory.

Led by senior Jarelle Reischel, junior Isaac McGlone and sophomore Greg King, the Maroon Team sprinted out to a 30-point lead and led, 28-8, at the end of the first period. At halftime, the White Team had clawed to within eight, 45-37. By the beginning of the fourth period, the White Team's deficit was still eight, 71-63.

Early in the fourth period, senior Jonathan Hood knocked down a three-pointer to pull the White Team to within a point, 74-73. Another three-pointer by sophomore Daniel Parke and a jumper in the lane by sophomore Paul Jackson gave the White Team its first lead of the game, 82-81, with just over three minutes to play in regulation.

The White Team held that lead until the last second of regulation, when McGlone hit a step-back three-pointer at the buzzer to tie it, 89-89, and force the first of two one-minute overtime periods.

It was in the second overtime period that Hawkins converted his game-winning free-throw to cap the White Team's truly remarkable comeback.

Hawkins led all scorers in the game with 38 points. Freshman Nick Mayo contributed 14 points for the White Team, while senior K.J. Bluford finished with 12 points.

McGlone paced the Maroon Team with 22 points, while King scored 19 points and Reischel finished with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds.
