No. 6 Georgetown College Dismantles St. Catharine

(6) Georgetown 106
St. Catharine 77

Final from Georgetown, Kentucky

Game recap by GC:

For the fourth time this season in just six games, Georgetown College men's basketball eclipsed the century mark. The No. 6 Tigers (6-0, 1-0) opened Mid-South Conference play with a solid 106-77 win over visiting St. Catharine College.

"This was a good win for us to start off league play," said GC coach Chris Briggs. "Our guys came ready and played well. This is exciting because we still have room to improve.

"We have big one on Saturday that we must prepare for now."

Georgetown opened on a 30-12 run in 10-plus minutes of action and never took the foot off the gas.

The Patriots (2-4, 0-1) never got closer than 15 points a couple of times in the first half. Then SCC saw another flurry of points as the deficit grew to as many as 20 for good early in the second half.

Deondre McWhorter tallied 20 points to lead five Tigers in double-figures. The senior was a rebound shy of a double-double in nearly 23 minutes of action.

Fellow senior Noah Cottrill had 14 points as he blistered the nets on six-of-nine shooting, 66.6 percent from the field.

Sophomore transfer and Scott County High School standout Trent Gilbert had 13 points on five-of-eight shooting, including three-of-five from three-point range.
