University of the Cumberlands Goes 2-0 in Bluefield College Classic

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Basketball team headed into the Bluefield College Classic on Friday looking to redeem themselves after dropping a one-point loss to St. Thomas on Wednesday. The Patriots faced the Fighting Yellow Jackets of Allen University in the opening day of play before taking on Methodist College on Saturday. UC looked solid in both games as they came away with two victories, moving their overall record on the season to 5-3.

UC came out strong in the first half against Allen University and held a 13 point lead at halftime. The Yellow Jackets would make a push, but the consistent play in the second half was enough for the Patriots to hold on for the 70-66 victory over Allen.

•Michael Dow (Melbourne, Australia) came off the bench to lead the Patriots with 16 points.
•Tre Boutilier (North Preston, Canada) added 14 points while pulling down 5 rebounds.
•Temjae Singleton (Los Angeles, CA) chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds.
•The Yellow Jackets were led by Ivory Drummer who poured in 20 points.
•UC shot 47.4% from the field and 56.3% from the free-throw line. •The Yellow Jackets forced the Patriots to turn the ball over 14 times while only committing 10 turnovers. UC won the rebound battle though, 31-27.

The Patriots then would take on the Monarchs of Methodist College in the final day of play in the Bluefield College Classic on Saturday. A solid rebounding and defensive effort by the Patriots made up for a below average night of shooting as UC earned the 69-55 victory.

•Tre Boutilier led the Patriots while recording a double-double, scoring 15 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
•Michael Dow added 14 points and grabbed 3 boards.
•Temjae Singleton chipped in 13 points of his own.
•The Monarchs were led by Tabias Hillard and Brandon Monk who contributed 12 points apiece.
•UC shot 38.7% from the field and 58.9% from the free-throw line.
•The Patriots forced the Monarchs to turn the ball over 19 times while only committing 14 turnovers and dominated the rebounding column 41-25.


The Patriots will be back in action Saturday, December 5th as they travel to New Albany, Indiana to take on the Grenadiers of Indiana University Southeast. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 pm.
