Centre College Rolls Into SAA Semifinals with Big Win Over

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( – Senior forward Blake Scinta's (Louisville, Ky.) game-high 22 points led four Colonels in double-figures and paced the Centre men's basketball team to a 68-48 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament Quarterfinal victory over Millsaps on Friday night at Homewood High School.

The Colonels won their sixth consecutive game to boost their record to 18-8 on the season, while the Majors close the 2015-16 campaign with a 5-21 ledger.

Centre moves on to face No. 2 seed Sewanee on Saturday at 8 p.m. CT at Bill Battle Coliseum in the SAA Semifinals.

The Colonels found themselves trailing by two points at 25-23 at halftime on Friday night. Millsaps' Brennan Gagen opened the second half with a jumper to give the Majors a 27-23 lead, before Centre used a 15-4 run fueled by 11 points by Scinta to gain a 38-31 advantage with 14:22 to play in the game.

Millsaps would cut the Centre lead to six points at 44-38 with 11:16 showing on the clock, when the Colonels went on a 21-6 surge fueled by 9-of-11 shooting from the field to take their largest lead of the game of 24 points at 68-44 with just over two minutes remaining.

Freshman guard Carson Ebert (Willard, Ohio) and sophomore guard Will Maguire (Atlanta, Ga.) capped the spurt with back-to-back 3-pointers for the Colonels.

The Majors would score the final four points of the contest to shrink the final deficit to 68-48.

Scinta made 7-of-11 field goals, including a perfect 3-of-3 from downtown in the win. The 6-8 forward was also a percent 5-of-5 from the charity stripe and grabbed nine rebounds in the win.

Senior forward Tyler Wesley (Crestwood, Ky.) notched a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for Centre. He was 6-of-10 from the field and 3-of-5 from the free throw line to go along with three blocked shots.

Junior guard Matt Gump (Bellefontaine, Ohio) dropped in 11 markers on 4-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-7 from long range.

Freshman guard Tucker Sine (Bowling Green, Ky.) chipped in 10 points on 5-of-11 field goals in the victory.
