Three Kentucky NAIA Teams in Sporting News Preseason Top 10

Three Kentucky teams in the Mid-South Conference are ranked in the Sporting News preseason top 10 for NAIA Division I basketball.

Campbellsville University No. 4 and Lindsey Wilson College is No. 5 in the rankings.

Georgetown College rounds out the top 10 at No. 10.

Here are more details from CU:

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The Campbellsville University men's basketball team will start the season ranked No. 4 in the Sporting News NAIA Preseason Top 10, the publication released this week.

The Tigers sit behind Dillard University, Westmont and Carroll College who are Nos. 1-3, respectively. Last season, Campbellsville knocked off both Dillard and Carroll en route to reaching its second NAIA Fab Four.

After the Tigers at No. 4, two other Mid-South Conference teams were mentioned. Lindsey Wilson College ranks No. 5 in the poll, while Georgetown College rounds out the Top 10. The Georgetown Tigers played in the NAIA Championship last season but fell to MidAmerica Christian – the same team who upset CU in the Fab Four.

Vanguard University, Talladega College, William Carey University and William Penn all ranked Nos. 6-9.

The Sporting News also released the 2016 Preseason All-Americans and the Tigers had a couple of mentions. Seniors Erik Kinney and Roderick Lawrence – who both missed last season due to injuries – were both chosen as Honorable Mention selections.

Campbellsville loss three key starters – Ron Scott, Sekou Harris, Rob Robinson, and Dii'jon Allen-Jordan – but the Tigers replaced them with another highly touted recruiting class.

Andre Applewhite and Kelton Ford highlight the Tigers' transfers - both coming from NCAA DI programs. In addition, guards Jalen Coates and Antonio Chapman rounded out coach Brent Vernon's first recruiting class.

The four new Tigers will join returners – Erik Kinney (r-Sr.), Roderick Lawrence (r-Sr.), Elliott Young (Sr.), Zach Perry (Sr.), Taylor Howard (Jr.), Shawn Johnson (Jr.), Italo Barbosa, (Jr.), Hagen Tyler (So.), Byron Dean (r-Fr.) and Corey Shelton (r-Fr.).

In cooperation with the women's basketball team and Maroon Goons, the Tigers will host a Maroon Madness on Monday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. ET.

The Tigers are scheduled to open the season with its first regular season game on Wednesday, Oct. 26, as they host Central Penn. College at 7 p.m. in the Powell Athletic Center.
